Biographical Note

For the last five years, Claire have worked for The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, and Conde Nast Portfolio, and freelanced for Rolling Stone, Redbook and others. The variety of publications, and each of their traditions of rigorous reporting and thoughtful storytelling, has given her a deeply imbued sense of the ethical practice of journalism at its highest levels. While at The New York Times, she contributed reporting to a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative series that probed malfeasance by American railroad companies. As a staff reporter at the Los Angeles Times, she covered the entertainment industry and wrote a cover story for the paper's magazine on the out-of-control antics of Girls Gones Wild CEO Joe Francis. The story became one of the most read articles ever on the paper's website and garnered a Los Angeles Press Club award, as well as a nomination for a Livingston award (for journalist under 35) for national reporting. Since she left the Times this spring, she have been working under contract for Conde Nast Portfolio, covering business on the West Coast. At the same time, she have expanded her freelancing ventures, writing on popular culture for Rolling Stone, Los Angeles Magazine and others. She is also starting a daily blog on religious belief in action for the Washington Post/Newsweek that will be the centerpiece of their online religion section.
